The Space Junk

New words: orbit debris

The governments around the world and scientists says that there is too many space junk outer space. There are too much satellites that are not used, and satellites that are not important. Everyone says that the Earth looks like this,

But the Earth actually looks like this with all the space junk.

Some scientist did some research to see how many will be there in the future. They think every year 10 satellites will be removed (destroyed).
Scientist don't want to increase more orbital debris, which is smaller pieces of satellite made when they bump into each other. In 2009 a Russian satellite and a U.S. satellite bumped into each other and made a huge accident. The scientists don't want to make and accident that big again, so they are trying to get full satellites removed and also orbital debris removed from space so it won't crash into Earth. Another situation, a satellite hit the capital of Saudi Arabia which caused a terrible crash.

Satellite

On September 23, 2011, NASA supposed that a artificial satellite named UARS will be reentering the  earth's atmosphere. They suspected that at late night time of September 23rd or the morning of  24th, the satellite will be landing on earth. They didn't know where the UARS will be landing.  NASA said that UARS won't be landing in USA but they think it will land in the ocean.  NASA is expecting that the UARS will break into 26 pieces and said some of the pieces would not be able to burn before it enters the earth.  Finally they found out that on the 24th morning the pieces of UARS landed in the Pacific Ocean.

I think that the scientist and NASA types of government should take  care of the space junk outside of earth. It will frighten people of when and where the junk will be landing on earth. There is many satellites that we don't need at the moment. Maybe we should use maps than GPS. Maybe we should use address than Google Earth or Google Map.

For More Videos . . .

If you would like to watch more videos on the Earth's system go to youtube and type in "earth system".
Or just click the link below,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciV6Uaeobxk
then you would get a very descriptive idea on how the Earth's system works.
I recommend this video because I liked it very much and it gave me lots of facts without getting boring.
Not only the basic facts it gave, but it also told very small details that are useful but other videos don't give.
I hope you try and enjoy it! :)

Title:    Japanese Humongous Earthquake and Tsunami
Site: www.ploughsnares.org/blog/2011/03-14/media-and-expert-resources     and other sources on google.com

Summary:
In March 11th, 2011, there was a big earthquake and tsunami in the north east part of Japan.   A lot of people got killed and many houses and buildings got ruined and destroyed, because of the earthquake. As the tsunami and earthquake happened, the nuclear power plant cracked and radioactive gas started to leak out of it. This poisonous gas affected the whole entire world. If you breathe in the radioactive gas, you could die in several minutes.  If you go near it or breathe in it while you are pregnant, the baby could have problems or could be born as a handicapped person.  Even though you are far away from the radioactive gas, after several years, you could get cancer. The Japanese government tried their best to solve the problem, but yet the problem is not completely solved yet.

My Thoughts:
I chose this event because for a long time it was the biggest event happening.  I suppose I chose this because this is a humanities project and earthquakes and tsunami are what we learn in humanities.  I think it was a bad idea to build a nuclear power plant in a country that has a lot of earthquakes.  You can build a power plant, but it would be safer to build it stronger in an island with a lot of earthquakes and tsunami.  It is good to use a lot of environmental friendly ways of making electricity.  But in a country like Japan, they should make more wind power plants or use more radio power.
